How data helped Europe win the 2018 Ryder Cup
Challenge
To give Europe a competitive advantage over one of the strongest American teams in history.
Solution
Using design, data science and engineering, we built a bespoke software platform for European captain Thomas Bjorn and his vice-captains. It provided a complete statistical profile of the confirmed and possible members of the European team.
Our data intelligence enabled Bjorn and his VCs to make the smartest possible decisions, including course strategy, wild card selection, pairings and playing order in the Sunday singles matches.
After an indifferent start, we encouraged the Captain to ‘stick to the plan’, which became the team’s motto for the week. We proudly contributed to a stunning victory for Team Europe.
