Consensus
from conflict

In-depth analysis and a personal approach to overcome stakeholder differences

Challenge

To give clubs and administrators confidence in the future by overcoming disagreements over the format of the Netherlands’ premier football league.

“Twenty First Group helped us to navigate a challenging political situation. Their independence and robust analysis were key in building consensus and moving us forward.”

Solution

Taking a consultative and analytical approach, we first interviewed every club CEO individually, to truly understand their various perspectives.

Having defined alternative options for the league format, we then created a bespoke statistical model to assess their impact on each club’s performance and revenue over a ten-year period. This included the probability of relegation, along with projected income from matchday revenue, commercial deals and broadcast rights.

Impact

Having started with a series of conflicting views, we were able to gain alignment among stakeholders that making a material change to the competition format would not bring sufficient benefit to all clubs.
