Creating value by removing bias.

Challenge

The Official World Golf Rankings had identified a number of systemic biases in its ranking methodology and needed to find a solution.

Solution

Through complex statistical analysis, we identified and confirmed the specific issues. We then conducted an independent evaluation of alternative ranking methods.

Our focus was in communicating complex statistical concepts in a way that was accessible to a non-technical audience. However, we also had to consider the wider implications for the wider game of golf of any changes to the existing ranking system.

Impact

By proving to be an independent, trusted advisor, we were able to build consensus on a way forward within three months. This followed nearly two years of unresolved discussion before we joined the project.
